Brownsea Island - a beautiful day with Red Squirrels.

Updated: Nov 1, 2018

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day, the sun was shining, we had a good drive down to Sandbanks and enjoyed an amazing breakfast at "Caff” – all before 09.30.

Having caught the first ferry over to the Island, we found the spot behind the church that is the regular feeding place for the squirrels, however it also proved very popular for people as well, so we took ourselves off for a walk to find a nice quiet area and our luck was in – a solitary red squirrel had a patch all to himself and was busy hiding a cache of acorns.

We sat for a couple of hours watching this industrious little furry creature preparing his winter store, the time just flew by, sat in the sun, surrounded by autumn colours and the squirrel passing just inches in front of us – perfect!

We dragged ourselves away in the afternoon and had a return trip to "Caff" for coffee and cake before driving home – we can thoroughly recommend this place, terrific food and brilliant staff – you can find it opposite the main car park at Sandbanks.

One spark of insight that came to us today . . . . don't put things off or make excuses, it may have been a longish drive there and back but it was worth it!
